Frugal Fasion Week in Toronto

Frugal Fashion Week’s: Cheap is the new Chic was much better than I expected. I had access to chat with the young designers and was impressed with each and everyone.

Devlyn Van Loon

The first young designer’s name is Devlyn Van Loon (above), she is a 3rd year fashion student at Ryerson University . Her inspiration was based on a movie, but for the life of me I cannot remember the movie. I liked her collection but thought some of the pieces were too difficult to incorporate into everyday wear, especially to the office.

The second designer gets the award for miss congeniality.  She was extremely friendly and I probably spoke to her the most of the 3 designers.  Her name is Mady Bone.  She went to school in British Columbia, Blanche McDonald and spent a total of $217 at Goodwill for all the 10 pieces she created for this event.

The last designer is also the winner of this friendly competition, Erin Summer-Kibblewhite.  She has a long name and was easy to talk to.  At the end of the show, I took a picture with her and one of her models.  Erin is a accessories designer so designing clothes is new to her.  She mentioned to me that she had to get used to some of the smell from the clothes she bought at Goodwill.  As someone who shops there pretty frequently, I rarely find pieces with a stinky smell.  I can definitely see why Erin’s collection won.  Her clothes are very wearable for the average woman / girl.
